  • Aggressive Research Intelligence Facility (ARIF)
    ARIF is a specialist unit based at the University of Birmingham. The role of ARIF is to improve the incorporation of research findings into population level health care decisions in the NHS in the West Midlands region. This is achieved by helping health care workers access and interpret research evidence, particularly systematic reviews of research, in response to particular problems they are experiencing.

    The Environmental Health Sciences Group within the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences addresses a range of research issues requiring the application of chemical and physical principles to the study of environmental processes. Ultimately, such processes are relevant to environmental change and human health.

  • Perinatal Institute
    The Institute was set up in April 2000 as a substantial expansion of the former Perinatal Audit Unit. Its remit is to address the high rate of perinatal mortality and morbidity in the region, and to aid improvements in perinatal care. The Institute is funded by the West Midlands Regional Levy Board.
  • Physical Activity Network - West Midlands
    The Physical Activity Network for the West Midlands is an independent region wide network initiated to be a sustainable, independent network that supports those working to increase physical activity levels in the population of the West Midlands.
    An important part of the network is to hold regional events, relating to relevant topics and to provide opportunities for those working in the wider physical activity sector to network, share and access information and develop skills.
  • Public Health, Epidemiology & Biostatistics
    The Unit of Public Health, Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the University of Birmingham is involved in a wide range of academic public health activities, including epidemiological and health services research, public health resource development, health technology assessment, postgraduate taught courses and research opportunities and undergraduate medical education.

    The network is a region wide forum, led by the Department of Health West Midlands. The network is made up of the Regional Food Policy Group and the Regional School Food and Health Action Group who work to ensure a joined up approach to food and health among partner agencies, and support those working to improve food and health outcomes within the region.
    A key role of the networks are to provide regional leadership and direction for food and health work in the region, to support workforce development through the provision of regional training, conferences and events and to undertake research and evaluation to inform good practice within the region.

    This is a new website dedicated to supporting injury prevention in the West Midlands region. The aim of the website is to provide regional information and data, policy and strategic information, evidence, good practice and the latest news and events. The website will facilitate better networking and communications across the West Midlands.
