The aim of quality assurance in the NHS Breast Screening Programme is "the maintenance of minimum standards and the continuous improvement in the performance of all aspects of breast screening in order to ensure that women have access to a high quality service wherever they reside".
One of the main objectives of the Breast Screening QA Reference Centre is to review the performance and outcomes of individual breast screening services against pre-set national minimum standards and targets for patient care. These are more commonly known as outcome measures.
Together with these outcome measures, the Breast Screening QA Reference Centre collects and distributes other data from a number of points throughout a woman's breast screening pathway.
