Annual West Midlands Breast Screening Quality Assurance Conference a great success

The Breast Screening QA Reference Centre hosted their annual quality assurance conference on 18 October 2005 at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham. The event was open to all staff working in breast screening in the West Midlands, and was attended by more than 200 delegates.

Highlights in the programme included lectures from Professor Anthony Howell giving an overview on hormone therapy, Professor Robert Coleman speaking on the incorporation of bisphosphonates into breast cancer prevention and treatment programmes utilising aromatase inhibitors, Dr Andrew Wardley’s presentation on adjuvant trastuzumab (Herceptin®) and a lively session on challenging cases with a team from King’s College Hospital, London. If you would like a copy of any of the presentations please contact Beckie in the Breast Screening QARC.

At the end of the conference all delegates were invited to complete an evaluation form to provide valuable feedback which will assist in the planning of future events. The overall feedback from the conference has been extremely positive with 79% of delegates agreeing that the overall educational value of the day was excellent or good. All of the speakers’ presentations were well received without exception.

The event was funded through sponsorship from Pfizer Oncology, and delegates contributing a token amount to attend. If you would like any insight on the dos and don’ts when planning events please speak to Beckie or Jan in the Breast Screening QARC who have learned from bitter experience!
