Versions

Version 2 was the first major release of the CIS software. Version 3 was released in January 2002 and was the first to contain survival data. Version 4 was released in November 2002 and shows incidence, mortality and survival data at a PCT level for the first time. It also uses 1998 ward boundaries, rather than the 1991 boundaries that the previous versions used.

Installation

Installation instructions are sent out on paper with the Version 2 CD, and are contained on the CD on all later versions (MSWord97 file install.doc).

They can also be downloaded by clicking one of the buttons below.

text format - 8Kb

"Word" format - 30.5Kb

Automatic File Synchronisation

When you run the CIS it connects to the server at the WMCIU and checks for modifications that may have been made to any of the client files. If there are any, it automatically downloads them to the client PC (or local server if installed in that way). So, if you have a version 2 CD, after connecting to the system for the first time you will be able to select survival data. Both version 2 and 3 CDs will enable you to see data at a PCT level once the initial synchronisation process has occurred. Due to the download mechanism there are certain file types that cannot be synchronised. Changes to these files are rare, however, and they do not prevent the application from running. The two types of files that are not synchronised are help files and boundary point files (used to draw maps).

You can identify whether a later version of help is available by selecting help on your current version. If a message appears directing you to this site, then a later file is available. If it doesn’t then you have the latest version.

Boundary point files have been updated for version 4. Selecting map display in incidence, mortality or survival at either PCT or ward level will give an error if you do not have the correct files.
