If you are concerned about your familial risk of cancer please see your GP or Practice Nurse who will be able to refer you to your local surveillance or clinical genetics service if he or she feels that this is appropriate.

If you are a resident of the West Midlands concerned about cancer rates in your immediate area please contact your local PCT for advice. To find contact details of your local PCT click here

Information for Health Professionals:

Routine information can be obtained via the Cancer Information Service CIS.

Clinicians may request details of their own cancer patients held by the WMCIU. For further information, please contact the Data Quality Team.

If you are from a PCT and wish to investigate concerns regarding cancer incidence rates in your area please download our protocol for Alleged Cancer Clusters.

Patient Identifiable or Potentially Identifiable* Request Form and
Non Identifiable Request Form

Both potentially identifiable* and identifiable patient information will only be released to authorised personnel in legitimate organisations, as detailed in the UKACR Policy on the Release of Identifiable Patient Information.

*Where the data released may allow identification of patients, for example through:

  • Patient level data (even if they do not contain obviously identifiable variables, such as names, full postcodes, dates of birth, NHS numbers or hospital numbers)
  • Tabular data based on small geographic areas (i.e. smaller than a PCT) with cell counts <5 (or rates/percentages derived from cell counts <5)
  • Tabular data containing cells with underlying population denominators <1000
