CAUDICO

The Collecting And Using Data to Improve Cancer Outcomes (CAUDICO) project is a joint venture between the West Midlands Cancer Intelligence Unit (WMCIU) and the Pan Birmingham Cancer Network (PBCN). The fundamental objectives of the project are:

  1. To assist the NHS Trusts involved in the project to meet their statutory obligations for reporting processes and outcomes relating to cancer care in the PBCN.
  2. To assist the same NHS Trusts to deliver better care to patients diagnosed with or treated for cancer in the PBCN by improving both communication between the Trusts in relation to patient’s cancer pathways and providing information on patients in danger of breaching targets.

The Cancer Waiting Times database is in an operational phase now, with nine trusts in the PBCN entering data into CAUDICO either by direct entry or by uploading CSV files. There are many searches established to highlight records that require extra information or are inaccurate, as well as identifying patients that have been referred to a different trust or may be in danger of breaching the waiting times targets. Each month the data are extracted and up loaded to the National Cancer Waiting Times database inline with the DSCN (Data Set Change Notification).
